| January 26th | Speaker for January: Reef.Org –Emily Stokes – a talk on lionfish and the lionfish invasion We will not need to pay them speaker fees, instead they would like us to give them an RO system. Eddie Soler will reach out to Air Water Ice to see if we can get a system. Or Bobby may have one at home, which he will check to see. If Eddie can’t get it from them, Dave will buy one on Ebay. GoPro for raffle item for January meeting? This will be donated by Eddie Steinman |
NOMINATING COMMITTEE: Bobby, Dave, and Maria. Everyone that is running for an elected position on the BoD next year: they must submit an application to Bobby. Eddie Soler will email out the applications.
HOLIDAY PARTY:
Dave and Busters is very expensive
Lourdes found out more info about having the party at her Clubhouse and this was also expensive
Eddie Soler reached out to Matt Tindall. The Davie Women’s Club is not available on Dec 5th. It is available on Dec 11th. We want to have the potluck on Dec 19th. – Matt Tindall confirms the 19th.
It will be a potluck as always.
There will be raffle prizes. Budget for raffle prizes: Eddie Soler says $500, Eddie Steinman seconds. All approve.
$150 budget for plates, cups, utensils / drinks / ice
Bobby will get the raffle prizes. Gayle is going to organize who is bringing what. Bobby will bring the check out to Matt Tindall.
EVENTS (FIELD TRIPS); POKER RUN: EXOTIC AQUARIUM, STRICKTLY FISH, VIP AQUARIUMS ARE IN. WAITING FOR REEF TOPS, AND OCEAN VIEW, and Reef Box –
- Eddie Soler has confirmed 3 stores – 2 along Bird Rd. He expects to have another two confirmed within a couple days.
- November 21st – Save the Date – Eddie will send out an email tomorrow.
- Eddie will take care of advertising, Gayle will take care of the poker cards / stamps
SCHOOL PROJECTS:
- Dave will be posting more pictures on ReefCentral about the school project at iMater
- Eddie Soler says that we should send out a couple of pictures of the school project in an email so that our members know what the club is doing for the community.
- SPHS needs a new water storage tank because the 500 gallon one that they have is leaking. Dave would like to purchase an additional 250 gallon storage tank for the school. Approx $150 on craigslist. Julio votes to buy a new storage tank. Bobby may be able to trade his 500 gal storage tank for the schools current 250 gal tank – he will work with Dave to find out if the size will fit.
- Eddie Steinman will get glass, Jeff Turner may be able to build a new tank for SPHS
- Bobby suggested we put pictures of the work we are doing with the schools up on the projector screen to run
before the meetings, Eddie will work on that
CONTESTS:
- Finished the LPS contest – we need to pay the winner, Johnny Ugalde $200
- Do we want to do another coral growing contest? Bobby says yes, but votes for a soft coral. Everyone else votes yes. Eddie suggests some type of SPS. Bobby suggests that we should see what Matt Tindall has. Bobby called Matt but Matt does not have anything. Eddie Soler will pick out a coral for the next growing contest. BoD approves a $200 budget for the next coral for the contest.
MEMBERSHIP:
- Eddie Soler motions, Julio seconds, all approve: any members that join in the last quarter of the 2015 year will be members through the end of the 2016 year.
WEB SITE:
- Minutes should be posted to the website for members only.
RAFFLE:
- Instead of a $500 big raffle item for the Nov meeting, we will just add $100 to the existing $150 for a total of $250
OPEN DISCUSSION:
- Reef.org is starting a new campaign “Don’t release me into the ocean.” They will be creating bags to give to fish stores for this. We will help them distribute.
- Demographics of the club? Lulio wants to reach out to get new members.
- Facebook advertising? T-shirts? Post cards / stickers for FMAS? Socials at different fish stores?
- Lulio will look into this
- Membership drives – have a raffle at different fish stores – should schedule this for the beginning of the next year.
- Nova Southeastern’s stand is being built and we will need to send them a check. They will put an FMAS sign up.
- Matt Dudley has all of FMAS’ electrical things from the Frag Swap (splitters, extension cords, etc). Dave will get
with him to get these item back to the club.
